I was expecting sappy content like "Make a new friend at work" or "Hug yourself", but this is actually very practical. Alcohol and Holidays go together hand in hand and it's a double edged sword. I usually consume VAST amounts of alcohol just to handle family gatherings, but the days after, I always feel down, even worse than before. Oh well, I will try better for sure!

Nice article...a few helpful hints....thank you! But it would be nice to address those of us who don't have a significant other or kids. That depression, of being alone, is very tough this time of year, especially when all you hear, read and see is about couples giving each other cars and diamonds, or families playing santa clause and such. There's very little out there this time of year that takes into consideration that we are not all married with children. I'm OK with being single, but when this time of year comes around, I always get that "there must be something wrong with me" feeling. I just CAN'T be the only single person out there spending the holidays on my own.

I disagree with point 4, Go light on the alcohol. I find that if I drink even more at the holidays my family does not depress me as much as they normally do the rest of the year. My relatives almost look normal when my head is in a fog of booze. Otherwise they look like freaks and I feel like vomiting when I look at them. Happy Holidays!

I hate Christmas. I have no family and I'm so sick of being alone this time of year.

I agree with Sugmag1027 and Susan h. I'm alone with a very very small Family and not a whole lot of friends that I don't want to keep buggin. I'm normally so lonely it's almost debilitating and holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas and misery. I wish I could feel better. If there's anyone out there who thinks misery loves company, I'd be glad just to have the company.

I never realized I had the stress or blues with the holidays until my significant other pointed it out to me how he perceived my actions nearing these times.. Wow! You would think we could feel it in ourselves and overcome? Yes this article helps!
