We all should be using more of our own common sense and try to ignore the continous hype that we are bombarded with from ads. Everybody is searhing for the next best thing, but the deal is just to sell you somemore useless crap, usually flavored with high fruitrose corn syrup! Gabby, keep sending us back to basics. Thanks. Does anyone have a link to Gabby's anti- microwave article?

Why should we not drink the diet drinks? There is no calories or sugar in them, right?

I almost completely agree with you here, but I do enjoy an alcoholic beverage on occasion. I count the calories in them, so I don't think it's too bad. Other than that, I usually drink water or tea.

Well, guys, the only way you actually suffer from the calories is watching them so carefully, if you relax a bit, then you wouldn't have too much to worry about. I eat a lot, maybe 5 meals a day, but they are rationalized, and understandable. They mainly contain fruit and veggies, those are the only way you can stay healthy... stock up on them, then you'll be eating smart

Here's another no-brainer. Make your iced teas homemade and then you can control how sweet you make it, what you sweeten it with, and how much caffeine you get in them. I'd never drink an iced tea made with corn syrup. I'd drink a soda first before I did that.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is stuff I've been saying for years. What we drink should replace what we lose, or give the something beneficial. Since we don't sweat or urinate high fructose cornsyrup, we should be putting it our body. I mostly drink water or green tea, and an occasional glass of skim milk. And my body loves me for it, LOL. I get kinda irked by people who say, "If if says diet/sugar-free/calorie-free, then it's good for me". For one thing, these people obviously don't look past the nutrition label, to read the ingredients and consider what those will do to their body also. Sometimes I think that cyanide could be on the ingredient list, and people would still say, "As long as there's no calories, it's good for me." Same thing with all those "health smoothies" people buy. People will rave about all the different vitamins they contain, and totally disregard that it has enough sugar to send someone into diabetic/sugar shock. If they want vitamins, they should just go to a healthfood store and buy some. Also, when you make something yourself (like a smoothie or tea), you can control what goes in it. Thank you Gabby, for reminding people that using common sense in decisions can be good for their body. I hope you reached a lot of people.

Water is good for you, no question. It's the world's #1 beverage! Dr. Oz (from You the Owner's Manual) was recenty on Oprah saying that driking large quantities of water daily is not that helpful & doesn't really provide extra health benefits. Drinking enough for your body's needs is adequate.

Does drinking more water really boost metabolism? I had never heard of this before.

haha i tell this to my mom all the time. when she makes fun of me for drinking diet coke. i try not to drink it that much, but if i want a sweet drink i figure diet coke is good and isn't as bad as a regular soda. i'd rather eat my calories then drink them. plus after you stop drinking regular soda, diet soda is pretty yummy!

Gabreille is exactly right on! I've always been fit - and slim. In my late 40's I noticed I was putting on a little weight and that was NOT okay with me. I was exercising and eating well. I cut out soda - and lost 10 pounds...now I'm back to weighing what I did in the 8th grade! Smart thing to do - easy and effective!
