Is it possible to suddenly develop intolerances to food that you've been accustomed to eating all throughout your life without any problem or noticeable reaction? Can food allergies mimick any other health issues?

I totally agree with you. I, too had been "getting off track" eating all the foods I knew I shouldn't and then feeling guilty/sluggish afterwards. I "got back on the wagon" and have started eating protein, veggies and fruit and feel SOOOO much better, and exercising more. Thanks for your article.

Not eating healthy is a sign of not being focused on what is really important to you. Unless these issues and your deepest needs identified and addressed properly, you will never be able to win this battle. Good advice, Gabrielle. I am ALWAYS impressed with your column as it's susinct, well-written, and perhaps even a bit inspirational. Model/actress? You're a lot more than that, Gabby...

I agree wholeheartedly with all of this. AS someone who travels daily for her career, I have noticed a steady weight gain of 40 pounds over the last 4 years!Over the last month or so i have started biking and watching what I eat. I must say when it comes to traveling all day, I must pass 40-50 fast food establishments everyday! I found it is much better to bring nutrition bars, or 100 calorie snack packs in the car with me. And then IF I need something else, I am not at the point of being really hungry and can actually go through the fast food line only for a grilled chicken sandwich minus the mayo and leave the fries, the grease behind! And likewise, having a cabinet or fridge full of healthier foods and snacks really makes it easier to stay on track! My husband and 4 year old daughter have no weight problem and can eat just about anything, they were fortunately blessed with a great metabolism. Bad habits combined with Polycystic Ovarain Syndrome have really made being overweight my biggest life challenge. Oh how I wish I was thin again...I hope and pray that I will get there with some hard work! Thanks for the ideas!

This article is okay, but what is this irrational prejudice against pizza? Pizza can actually be quite healthy. Prepare it with whole-wheat bread, lots of veggies, and tomatoes sauce (skip the cheese or just sprinkle some low-fat cheese). There: a high fiber meal with stuff from almost all food groups. You can also take a few bites of dark chocolate instead of pigging out on milk chocolate, or have a few tortilla chips with lots of veggie chili so you don't overeat on the chips. I don't believe in cutting out foods entirely...all kinds of modifications can be made if you think about it!

Lately, I've been hearing people getting fat...it's not from all this fast-food, pop, ~yea right!~, potato chips...etc..The way I look at this, especially the kids, they get that way from playing video games and internet. When I was in my teens, I never heard of such things like this. We also had our friends to talk to, we'd be outside 80% of the time always doing something. But today, seems like people are blaming their own fatness on something else. You just can't do that. As for me, I crave calories ~2500-3000~ a day and can work it off riding my bicycles, been doing that for the last 15 yrs. and as of now, I'm 44, 5"11, 160 lbs and in great physical condition. I'm proud of my shape.

I have been struggling with my weight since I had my kids 13 years ago. It is so hard, but I do notice the difference in the way I feel when I eat better. I have finally realized that this is going to be a lifestyle change and not a quick fix. I appreciate the helpful information and I'm posting it on my fridge as a great reminder. Thanks!!!

This article actually makes sense. I have done these things and yet I can't seem to break the monthly junk food binge. PMS just brings out the worst in my nutritional choices. So for one week, I binge. If I don't, I regret it the whole month. I continue to workout on my machine, though, because I don't have as much guilt as I would if I didn't. Most of what I make is from scratch. Prepackaged foods are the worst in higher sodium, carbs, and all those preservatives. I find it takes no more time to make from scratch than it would from a box.
