might want to re-think that line about where our children learn.....unexpected lessons do come from the examples set by schools and neighbors.....good and bad.......my mama got her exercise by chasing after a cow......no cow or pasture in my life LOL......oh well

thought provoking. As a nutritionist, I hear excuses all the time about: "this is all I know how to do, I can't, I've dont this all my life." Then why waste my professional time trying to get you motivated to change your life when you really aren't or don't want to help your-self? This is why there are obesity, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, etc issues as common in young children as they are in adult over 30. GREAT ARTICLE!

Two things I do at work to get some exercise in: 1)I work on the top floor of my building so whenever I am taking the elevator up, I get off two floors below my floor and walk up 2) I don't use the printer in my office, instead I use the public printer that is at the other end of the floor. This way, I get a lot of extra walking in while at work. It adds up.

Thank you for this article. You are so right. It's easy to make excuses not to excercise as a sahm. Chasing my toddler around the house might get my heart rate up but it's no substitute for dedicated excrcise.

Amen! You could not have said this better. It's all about making priorities and taking responsibility. Good habits are just as hard to break as bad ones. We choose which kind we are going to have. And let's face it: if we don't have our health, we really won't have much quality of life in order to enjoy some of the things that have kept us putting off getting our houses (our bodies) in order.

I own and operate a wedding and portrait photography studio plus I have 3 kids and a husband. My husband works full time and helps out in my studio on nights and weekends (shooting weddings means we work while everyone else is off). If I can find time, anyone can. How do I do it? I TAKE THE KIDS WITH ME!!! Not only do I get to exercise, but I am teaching them good habits! When I have 30 minutes of down time I put the baby in the bike trailer, get the older kids bikes out, and we all go for a ride. We get some fresh air, exercise, and we get family bonding time. I totally agree with the comment about TV, during that same half hour my kids could watch an episode of Spongebob, but they don't seem to feel like they missed anything. As far as fast food goes, by the time you drive to the place, order, eat, and drive home you could have cooked a 30 Minute Meal from scratch. And it would have been less expensive to boot. If you use Peapod you don't even have to take the time to go grocery shopping, which saves me 2 hours a week!

I do agree. I used to make any kind of excuses not to work out but now I am very proud of myself to be working out almost everyday. Just the first step and that's it....

An excellent point made about making excuses when it comes to our health. We concentrate so hard in our daily lives on school, work, hobbies, and relationships that we let conditioning our bodies slip through the cracks. I'm new to owning and operating a computer and I have noticed I have a fascination with all the things I can do now. Looking at myself in the mirror and feeling the performance of my body go down I know it is time that I pull myself away and prioritize working out.
