I enjoy articles by this author. But eating foods loaded with carbs an HOUR BEFORE going to bed is a good way to expand your waist or butt, etc.

"the protein in the milk will boost alertness". Bull [profane], David. I'm an avid milk drinker. I can drink milk any time of the day or night, and I've never noticed that it makes me "alert". My wife also drinks some right before bed most nights, and she's never complained that it kept her up. Where do you dream up stuff like this?

This is pretty cool. I never would of thought that popcorn would help you go to sleep. And I really thought that milk was supposed to help you go 2 sleep.

My nightly ritual is having my kettel corn popcorn every night as I watch TV before I go to bed. I don't use real butter and use the spray butter which is zero calories. Happy to see that popcorn is on the list since I tend to be quite the night owl. Maybe that is why I crave it so much.

This article is crazy. You actually get better sleep if you refrain from eating 2-3 hours before bed. You get a HGH surge for fat loss as well. This article is so misleading!

Should've included , 1-2 beers. Same effect with the alcohol, but the hops is a natural sleep aid and is often sold as a sleep supplement by itself.

Wow, I am So tired of the misinformation Yahoo disseminates to the masses disguised as responsible journalism. Popcorn releases serotonin? Serotonin is a neurochemical that makes us feel relaxed? It's simple; popcorn is a high-glycemic carbohydrate--especially low-fat--that causes the pancreas to secrete insulin which, in turn, assists in the binding and removal of sugars and other nutrients from the bloodstream causing the familiar "crash" about thirty minutes later. The fat that comes with buttered popcorn lowers the glycemic index of popcorn and causes it to enter the bloodstream slower, thereby reducing the insulin response to the carbs. The claimed effect on serotonin wouldn't be effected in either case as the inclusion of fat to popcorn shouldn't detract from what ever supposed substance popcorn possesses that supposed to lead to serotonin production and/or activity. To claim that carbohydrates are responsible for the presence and activity of serotonin without addressing hormone cascades and eicosonoids, prostaglandins, etc., is just irresponsible and taking advantage of the ignorance of the masses.

Actually, eating popcorn in the evening gives me nightmares and has for years; it also does this to several members of my family. So I think to relax, I'll skip the popcorn.
