While this was enlightening and good to know fat and calories; it would have truly helped to have a read on sugar and carbs as well!

What is your big problem with cheese? Assuming it isn't some "processed cheese product" you can look at cultures that have thrived eating such delicious food for centuries. Your attack against massive calorie explosions (you can eat that deep-fried crunch bowl!) is well-warranted, but let's lay off the actual, real food ingredients.

Everyone carping about "woe is me... I can't afford to eat at a restaurant" and the lot needs to relax. Have you ever traveled? Have you ever run out of time or groceries and not realize it 'til the last minute? Have you ever worked someplace that you really can't stand and need to get out during lunch? What if you have the opportunity to meet friends out for dinner? Anyhow... nutritionally speaking, all the chains post their menus' nutritional content on their websites. You can look up the carbs, sugar, or whatever you want. The only worrisome carbs in a salad would come from dressings (added sweeteners), candied nuts, and other processed food. If you're worrying about the carbs in a carrot or tomato, you need to step back and take some deep breaths.

yeah, but who goes to fast-food joints to eat salad? it should be a given that one shouldn't believe that just because a meal is a pile of leaves that it's "healthy" for you. i guess i was expecting a more revealing look at salad options at regular restaurants, because those can be more calorie-packed than one would expect as well

There aren't any restaurant salads that are good? All the "good" salads are fast food salads. AS someone who cares enough to rarely eat fast food... which restaurants have healthy salad options?

sodium! Jeez I can't ever eat out - don't forget the hydrogenated and trans fats. Cheaper and way healthier to eat at home!

I love Arby's Martha's Vineyard salad! Nice to see it on the hall of fame list. If you like apples, almonds and raspberry vinagrette, give it a try!
