My old family are all dead now, and having no kids of my own, so wheeeee... No stress and $$$ for me with that any more! But it's not the same in other opposite direction and you do miss them but can't be there for you so instead, you had to go out and just volunteer to help other people in the need on Xmas Day and then you'll feel be better about that than staying be home alone on your Xmas Day. It's true... Believe me.

Great points to dealing with holiday stress! Our family has come up with a great idea regarding getting together for holiday meals. With large families we decided instead of making a huge meal for 40 or so people we opted for an early evening dessert party instead of everyone coming for the big meal before exchanging gifts.. This makes the end of the day go much easier and no one has to do a lot of preperation for too many people. Set a time frame that way you as the host or hostess has time to relax before retiring for the day. Another event we participate in is going to some ones house for a family breakfast where everyone brings a dish. We take turns each year so not too much is on just one family. When there are littleones young families like to stay at home so the children can enjoy their day.I like the ideas that the doctor has for relaxation. Just a few minutes of peace does help a lot. Of course there is the word NO when planning visits. We space out our trips to other family during the holidays. This way we are not on the road visiting everyone in one day or two. Great article.Happy holidays to all.

I've regarded this information as a reminder to what I mostly knew anyway. However, the hypothetical senario's mentioned are the usual stressful events that you described. Just being aware of "not over doing it"at this time of year, has put these tips in perspective. Forget the "chaos" , relax and it's no different than any other period of time during the year. Thank you for reminding me not to get a panic attack.Don't spoil your christmas by running around for everyone else's sake.I am the same person that I was last feb as I am coming up to the holiday period, so why get stressed out-there is nothing to be proved.Thx dr.Mao for reminding me that there is always a "reset button".And another thing-remember that a hug and welcoming eyes are very much appriciated-it costs nothing John
