I would have no trouble cleaning my copious silver jewelry as suggested, if I could be certain that my turqouise stones, coral and spiney coral would not be damaged. Is this solution going to penetrate the loveliness of Bisbee Blue or the purity of what is known as "Tiffany Blue" turquoise from the Los Cerritos mine? I'd appreciate an answer, as I have no problem cleaning my silver service this way. My question involves the stones in my jewelry, and keeping them as blue as the day they were pulled from the mines. Thanks, Elisa Michaels chezcachet@yahoo.com

This doctor appears to be well intentioned, and his comments might be relevant to the housewife who has nothing but time on her hands to do household chores (it's an important job and I am not trying to be insulting). But for those living in business world, there is no way to follow the good doctor's advise unless you don't need to use a professional dry cleaner or can find a "green" dry cleaner in your area. There are lots of things that can kill you including consumption of too much water or eating fresh spinach so let's all lighten up a bit.

Try using ammonia with your laundry detergent instead of bleach...DO NOT MIX AMMONIA/BLEACH...ammonia does not eat your clothes and WILL DEFINATELY get dirt which has been in your clothes. After you have measured your detergent (liquid), fill it with ammonia...you will notice how clean your laundry is...NO NEED FOR BLEACH AGAIN!!!!

Informing people is NOT "scare-tactics"! How many times in the past have we learned about the dangers of a thing we were told was safe? DDT in pesticides, lead in paint, ceramics and plumbing, for example. We all have a responsibility to inform ourselves and make sure we have reasonably accurate information, and should never assume something is just true, but check into it further! And no, just because something is organic, all-natural or what-have-you DOES NOT mean it is safe! Again, education is key! Having said that, I feel it all comes down to this: if there's a question, would you rather play it safe or risk your - and your loved ones, your children's - health and life? Here's a reality check: 50% of people today will get cancer in some form in their lifetime.

Great Article and SO True!! There are so many (the majority of) common household cleaners that are bad for you, your KIDS and the environment. Getting back to natural products is not only better for your family and the environment, but often less expensive. My husband and I have really made an effort to use more eco-friendly and safer products around our home. Its not hard at all. Each time we run out of our "traditional" cleaners or household items, we ask ourselves "is there something available that's more natural?" Usually the answer is YES! With all the eco-talk these days, these products are becoming more and more available. The best part is, I don't even need cabinet locks anymore because none of my household cleaners are toxic or dangerous for kids! I would challenge everyone to do the same!

Shame on you thecook, Deciding that petroluem is environmentally friendly only above all alternatives. People have the internet now and can verify for themselves what green cleaning actually is. Every person has limited receptive allergy tolerances some higher some intollerant. There are cleaners out there that are 100% wetcleaning and CO2 ( carbon dioxide) cleaners that are environmentally friendly . I am a Greenearth cleaner and if you learned properly you know that it is made from CO2 / H2O/ SiO2 mainly with trace amounts of previous. It is biodegradable non VOC(volatile Organic Compound)It is not a HAP(Hazardous Air Pollutant, non-smog forming)It is currently used in deoderants and other body lotions.View at www.greenearthcleaning.com Petroleum is? Hydrocarbon is what is used and it is the next prefered method for drycleaners after perc.Times are a changing and there will be earth friendly alternatives as well as people whom realize what is best for them . Research and see the differences! Smell, feel, See! I believe you need to go back to school. betocleaner

i work in a dry cleaning store in Clermont, Florida. We recently converted to an all natural establishment doing away with all the toxic chemicals because the owners son was allergic to perc. I can't get over how nice the clothes smell and look If people only knew how toxic their clothes were even weeks later using perc
