Excellent article! Another one to add - liquid fabric softeners make clothes 5 times more flammable, not sure about dryer sheet type but I do know using dryer sheets cause a coating to build up on the lint trap and if it's not cleaned occasionally with soap and a brush it can result in a dryer-fire. I use vinegar in my laundry to brighten, soften and remove odours. It also helps keep the calcium in my water from settling in the clothes and making them stiff and dull. Vinegar and baking soda can be used to replace just about any chemical cleaner/polisher/remover, etc. A good source of cleaning tips and uses is http://www.vinegartips.com/cleaning.

Unless you go to a "GREEN" cleaner... and avoid the ones who use toxic chemicals. That shouldn't even be legal.

Baking soda and a soft cloth will also clean your silver jewelry. Baking soda, white vinegar, and coarse sea salt make wonderful, safe cleaners around the house.

I also use vinegar and baking soda (but NOT together-BOOM!) and it is GREAT natural and cheap laundry soap each can be mixed with a little lemon juice(after it is watered down)for a fresh smell. Save your money-especially since new machines say they need High Effeciency detergent-no way, try the alternatives they work GREAT!!

Great tips. I'll have to try the baking soda. I use a dye-fre, odor-free Arm and Hammer Detergent, but I dont think it's enough.

vinegar to remove odors? Isn't that like rubbing mud on a clean shoe? Vinegar is rank!

Another suggestion for cleaning jewelry is to use denture cleaning tablets dissolved in H2O. It seem to work great and you figure if it is safe enough to clean your teeth, it should be pretty innocuous.

This is a great article. I took a class on Environmental Health Sciences awhile ago, and we learned topics like this. That class made me a little paranoid, but the more you know the better.

More should be done to protect the publics health and saftey in America. If the government wants the taxes, they should spend it wisely on the people. Have they forgotten for the people by the people.
