I liked (and can live with!) most of the tips, but what's the deal with drinking HOT water? Why hot as opposed to cold? What are the added benefits? Just curious...

I always enjoy your articles. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us in a useful, straight forward way. You sometimes get criticized for giving ideas that are not practical (ie: get rid of mold by baking your house); however, you are not here to tell every individual how to fix their lives, but rather to impart general knowledge on a gerneral public. Your natural and simple solutions are wonderful. It is great to have advice that does not recommend artificial ingredients and destructive chemicals. Even if sometimes your advice is obvious & common sense, you always manage to slip in a few bits that are perhaps not so obvious. It always amazes me how little the people who comment on your articles really know about heathy lifestyles, and how often they'll ask for chemical solutions in thier comments and suggest foods with artificial ingredients. Clearly, this is not the collumn to be reading if those are the things they are seeking! Thank you, keep it up!

Drink hot water, chew on peppermint leaves and think fit...this sounds like a fad diet.

~~"isnt there any easyway out? what if u've tried all these but stoped for a while & ur weight retuns back even more. shld these therapy continue for a lifetime?"~~~ YES! That is the point- that crash diets do not work, there is no simple way out, and that changes must be lifestyle changes, not momentary blips. Dieting here and there just does not work in the long run. Just do it, you'll look better and feel better, and these sorts of changes are simple and not very demanding. ~~~"You've got to be kidding me, chewing on peppermint leaves and cinnamon sticks?!"~~~And what is wrong with that? They'll freshen your breath, and often kill other cravings for sugary or salty foods just like brushing your teeth will. The idea is to introduse a potent and unfamaliar flavor to your mouth to stave off other urges. What is wrong with this? Just don't chew cinnamon sticks too much- too much cinnamon can lead to mouth sores. ~~~"This is unrealistic trash. Plain hot water? Tea made out of boiling a peeled lemon? No eating after 7pm? Some of us have lives and jobs"~~~Why is this so unrealistic? OK, so you can't help eating after 7. That is one of several suggestions you seem unable to live by. That doesn't make the others irrelevant. I would like to know why the author believes hot water to be the best choice, but why not? I mean, on a cold day, hot water can be very filling and soothing, and some people just don't like tea! We drink Lemon Zinger tea and other fake lemon teas- why not a tea made with an actual lemon instead of fake lemon flavor and little bits of lemon peel in a tea bag? Same thing, only better.

60 oz of water seem excessive. I don't know anybody who can do it. So does 60 oz mean liquids or all just water. DOes it matter?

Most of this is very good advice, and most is things that people just keep forgetting to do.

I would definitely agree with everything here. I lost 20 pounds in a little over 2 months by changing my eating habits. Instead of going out or ordering in I started cooking more. Lots of fresh vegetables and lean cuts of meat. Lots of salads and healthy snacks. It really does work. Breakfast, mid-morning snack, lunch, mid-afternoon snack and then dinner. None of the portions should be large and after about 2 weeks, you will find that fast food makes you feel gross.
