The tap water where I live is pretty good, but I still use a Brita filter "just in case" (and since they've been fixing the local sewer system, its probably a good thing!). The only thing you get from tap water that you don't get from bottled water is the additive that helps your teeth. I drank tap water my whole childhood and never got a cavity. When I started drinking bottled water I got 2 cavities.

What kind of "doctor" is "doctor" Mao? I think he skipped school the day common sense was taught. For him to state "Tap water in urban areas contains pesticides, industrial pollutants, chlorine, fluoride, and other chemicals." is irresponsible not to mention untrue. All he has succeeded in accomplishing is scaring people who drink tap water. He obviously is not from the USA, where the EPA regulates the testing/quality of drinking water. Large water companies in the USA (many serving urban areas) meet stringent quality/safety guidelines. Call your water company if you don't beleive me. Oh and another thing, urban tap water coming from large water utilities is filtered via slow sand or rapid sand technology, oh, and another thing, many of these companies (those with surface water sources) add PAC (powdered activated carbon) to the filtration process too! Oh yeah, bottled water is regulated by the FDA, not the EPA. The FDA's testing isn't as stringent as the EPA's with respect to drinking water. And it is now common knowledge that several bottled waters are actually municipal "urban" tap water that have been run through a charcoal filter to remove the disinfectant (most likely chlorine). Please contact your water utility if you are concerned about the quality of your tap water or call your state health department, they too montior the tap water.

Currently I am an Organic Chemist at an "Urban Water Company" I test our water numerous times a year for the so called pollutants that the "Dr." has stated are found in tap water. I have never had a positive result for any of the chemicals! I have, however, experienced dangerous carcinogens in very popular bottled water, these chemicals are allowed by the FDA, whereas the EPA would never allow there presence in tap water. By the way, in response to the man "allowing" his wife to have water; even prisoners are not withheld water.... This is a sick world.

After my girlfriend had our kid she chunked up a bit and got lazy with the housework. I used to make her drink 10 glasses of water a day until she lost the weight and I made her drink a full glass of water from any glass, pan or pot that was dirty in the sink when I got home from the factory. I found that made her work harder at the chores which in turn made her lose more weight. Shes pregnant with our second and we are supposed to get married next year, so I'll pass on the mint tip if she plumps up again!

This is a great article. It is very important to use a water purifier. Especially if you have kids in the house. I am currently using a really good water purification system in my house. It uses UV rays alongwith a solid carbon block filter to purify the water. It is simply amazing and water tastes great. If anyone wants more info just email me and I can provide information. I think its only available in US & Canada.
