How does chai tea cause kidney stones? As a medical student who just recently studied the renal system, Merck mentioned nothing about that connection.

Whole grains for magnesium? There is just too much research out there that indicates that whole grains are not all that beneficial to us in the long run. They have even been linked to acne, especially in adults. While they may help with heart disease and provide a wide array of nutrients, you can get MORE magnesium from juicing, blending, or steaming any leafy greens - kale, watercress, cilantro, romaine lettuce, etc. and you can get MORE nutrients from rice bran solubles and bee pollen than from grains. Grains are only meant to be eaten in hard times where nothing fresh will grow. I would check out www.RawMatt.com for a lot of good information on this subject.

My garndfather will be 96 this year, he says his secret is naps. I find meditation to be an essential tool in stress relief and when my stress levels are low I sleep better. It may be cliche but there's nothing like good old beauty sleep to help you feel and look younger. I don't think most americans get enough sleep and thus age faster than other cultures.

For cardio, stair-climbing burns a ton of calories. More importantly than cardio is the concept of lifting weights to keep muscle tone in-tact as one ages. Lifting weights build strength, stability and circulation.

For alzheimers, you should eat more Indian curry or food with turmeric. Studies show it's the curcumin in the turmeric that is protecting Indians from alzheimers. Indians have the lowest rate of Alzheimers in the world. As for magnesium, this is a very important mineral that most Americans don't get enough of. You need magnesium for calcium absorption, otherwise calcium can collect in the soft tissues and possibly cause a form of arthritis and osteoporosis. And if you have a sweet tooth or drink a lot of alcohol, you need even more magnesium as sugar and alcohol increase magnesium excretion through the urine.

I was curious about the magnolia. I'd never heard about it, so started poking about on the web and came across this double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial. (www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=2359758). It concluded that a combination of magnolia and ... "may offer some relief for premenopausal women experiencing mild transitory anxiety".... But the authors also noted that appetite was not significantly changed in comparison to placebo. So, if you're looking to reduce short term anxiety, go ahead and try it. As for appetite control, don't waste your money.
