    An important omission in this article is the practice of pranayama or yoga breathing exercises. This can improve your lung capacity.

    I love the variety of vegetables you suggest - does it matter if the broccoli and cauliflower is lightly steamed? The entire group sounds colorful and flavorful and I am looking forward to trying them. (It's not that I'm not vegi eater, but I tended to limit the types I was eating.) Anyone have some great recipes for the vegetables mentioned above? Also, I am a flautist, and find that over the years my lung capacity has become reduced (I have been diagnosed also with COPD). But I do not seem to have issues with being out of breath when I play. I think my early training (breathe from the diaphragm) was very useful, and your advice about practicing should benefit me. I will try some of these, as with winter dryness, I have issues with excess phlegm in the mornings. An inexpensive hot steam humidifier has greatly helped, but during the day I get winded even walking briskly.
