I was one of five girls in our family. Our mother expired in 1977 with atheroscerosis, since that time I have had two sisters expire with Alzheimers, another sister had heart attack, sister two years younger than myself is now beginning her eight year with Alzheimers. I have been taking Gingho Biloba since 1977 - after reading that it was good for your brain and mind. In July,2004 I was rushed to the hospital thinking that I had a heart attack. After forty-eight hours in the hospital and they could find nothing wrong the last was an arteriagram. The doctor told me while on the table "you have less than twenty percent plack in your blood vessels". I told him that I had been taking Gingko Biloba since 1977 - he stated "you have made a believer out of me." I have arthritis at the end of my ribs where they attach to the sternum. I love to read, have been working crosswords for years (my husband and I keeps two in the car when we go to the doctor's office or etc. When my husband had his heart attack twenty years ago - his doctor told him to eat fruits, vegetables, chicken, fish and once a month a good steak. This we have been doing, we are having a good life. We are working two hours each night, can walk to work (unless we have snow and ice) and we enjoying looking at the moon, stars and enjoying the nice frest air before retiring for the night. My husband is 83 and I am 81 MESELF (nickname please)

I agree with everything except the chinese herbs! The jury STILL seems to remain out on them, (because they don't want to hurt anyone's feelings???). I never take or buy anything from China due to the heavy amounts of pesticides that are used in that country. This has been told to us over and over again. Look for any GOOD spices at your Whole Foods store and your Trader Joe's. I have bought HANDBAGS from China that more often than not, had dead bugs I couldn't even begin to describe inside of them. I look for only things made in the good old U.S. of A.!!!! Hard to find but can be done, just takes some time.

Tetley, British Blend, black teak is what I have been drinking for the past 17 years; I am 60 and most of the time a cup of Tetley tea is all it takes for my system to have a good poop, after I wake up.

Good concise article. I'm 51 and experiencing minor problems in this area. Always good to refresh the mind with good things. I actually printed this for my fitness board.

Thank you so very much. This is a worthy piece. Refreshing, not the usual "repeat someone else's ideas" on the subject. Can you discuss in a later article "Kongee" that I've been reading about so much over the past several months? I look forward to your next writing whatever it maybe. My blog is www.jael.gather.com
