About The Expert Provided by: Johns Hopkins University

Christine McKinney, M.S., R.D., C.D.E.

Hi, I'm Christine. As a certified diabetes educator and registered dietitian at Johns Hopkins, I teach people how to manage their diabetes. My blog is about ideas, tips, and personal experiences to help you control diabetes.

Join me as we explore new, as well as tried-and-true, ways to make living with diabetes easier and more manageable. I've had a passion for nutrition education and diabetes since I was young and looked up to my aunt, who was a certified diabetes educator (C.D.E.).

I followed my ambitions and became a C.D.E., as well. I feel so passionate about diabetes education because, even though diabetes is a chronic disease, its treatment and management are 100 percent self-controlled. Sure, you can see a health care professional who can give you information about diabetes but, day in and day out, you are the one who lives with it and has to manage it.

I currently work at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore in an outpatient clinic setting. I've received several honors and awards, but what means the most to me is seeing my patients take control of their diabetes and manage it successfully themselves. I love my job and hope to share my enthusiasm with you to help you live a longer and healthier life.
