Just about every religion and culture has some sort of celebration in the coming weeks, and this is no coincidence. As you mentioned in your piece on SAD, darkness seems to wear out the strongest of us, and these holidays are crafted to fill us with light. Focusing on the gaiety of the holidays is best, like singing and giving gifts to small children. In my own depression blog at http://depressionstinks.blogspot.com I've been using this blog as a resource and I want to thank you for your knowledge and perspective.

Oh come on, we've been told the blues are our own fault. Just shut up, stop crying & buck up - Right?

Meds are poison and will surely ruin your life! The experts here have posted that meds are bad only if they help your mental state. Other meds may be ok but they must get approval. Thank goodness there are ppl on the internet that are so much smarter than my dr.

I'm just glad that my bouts with the blues never last more than a day or two. However, I remember when they would last so long as to define life. I'm sure it has something to do with my body's metabolism and chemistry. I've never seen an older person who didn't appear to be fit, spiritually and mentally unless they were stricken with an illness. Cheer up, life gets easier.

Its the season of hope for all mankind. Its time for all responsible men, and women to refrain from looking the other way when they are aware of any atrocity whatsoever, performed by any staff member against any innocent "mental patient". The documented tragic murders of children, and adult "mental patients" performed by out-of-control psychstaff, on American psychwards are horrible indeed. Professionals have the responsibility, and the legal duty to report any criminal actions by staff, to responsible legal authorities. TO FAIL TO REFORT ANY CRIMINAL ACTION, PERFORMED BY ANY BRUTAL STAFF MEMBER, AGAINST ANY "MENTAL PATIENT" IS ILLEGAL, AND INDICTABLE AS AN ACCESSORY TO THE FACT. IT IS ALSO ETHICALLY, AND PROFESSIONALLY BANKRUPT. "MENTAL HEALTH" CORRUPTION AND FRAUD MUST END. ITS TIME FOR ACCOUNTABILITY WITHIN THE FIELD OF "MENTAL HEALTH", AND OUR GOVERNMENT MUST ENFORCE A STANDARD THAT ALL OUR CITIZENS WILL BE SAFE ON AMERICAN PSYCHOWARDS.

#9 connie: I'm not down! LOL! My comments on this topic were my sarcastic response to the posts on the last blog. I'm happy w/ my life and I'm not afraid to stand up to the ppl who think that those w/ depression are either faking it or they just need to get over it. I'm not afraid to say that it is OK to use meds when your psychiatrist has advised.

I thought this was a good article. I'm trying idea #1, travel, to get away--from everything--so noone knows where, who I am. Hopefully, I will discover why, what everyone's celebrating; because I really "don't feel it" this year.

December 9 Just wanted to reiterate how useful I found this article. I am trying option #1, travel. I am getting away-from everything, everybody--to a place where noone knows me at all, so I can start a new life--far away. Quite frankly, I don't quite "feel it" yet; so hopefully, I'll discover what everyone's celebrating. I'm a federal worker; so I need some cheering up.

All of you have a relative experiences. It's all hard, he,he who said it would be easy? The spirit is within you. This time of year is about the spirit. Spirit of what you say, learn it, ask questions, look for it. Hey have you ever made a cookie for Christmas, learn it, savor it. Drs., Meds., Exercise, whichever works, personally of love to exercise, yet I smoke so much, and let myself be overwhelmed by the day to day hubble, I think yikes how grueling to exercise, Meds, well if your way down and in a situation or your behavior describes a need for, well that s what science created Meds for. So we all have an opportunity to live this life as comfortable as we can. Look depression is many different things, Meds are okay too. Yet in the end here, I am one that does not have it all, yet what I do have I appreciate, and I plan to show my spirit in that.
