Good article.. I haven't been online in a month, so while catching up on topics here, I also found one on this blog called "Danger in your Medicine Cabinet".. My sister had a bad spell with panic attacks and it was determined to be from Lyrica.. (one of the medications Dr. N says CAN be dangerous for some people). She was taking it for nerve pain after surgery and it changed her whole thought process.. Even after they took her off the Lyrica, it took months for the panic attacks to fully subside... but I must say just knowing it was the medication made her better able to cope with the attacks.. she was always prone to panic because she has always worried a lot!! Relaxation Response techniques were very helpful for her..

My daughter is experiencing some panic attack epsides. She is abusing prescription pain medications that she is willing to steal from myself, her borfriend, even her grandmother. She is seeing a counsellor now, but I'm not sure if the counselor knows if she is stealing drugs. For the past three years she has gone back and forth from my home to her boyfriends and for a time I thought he was a source of the problem, but now I'm not so sure. She seems to be very down about herself and has mentioned suicide to her boyfriend. Is Drug Detox a viable alternative here. Please respond soon. I'm quite concerned as her father; Thanks for any response or advice.

OVER THE YEARS, DECADES, I'VE FOUND BEING PREPARED REALLY HELPS, I.E., NEVER GET ON A PLANE WITHOUT NOT JUST BOOKS, BUT THE RIGHT BOOKS. A MIX THAT WORKS FOR ME IS A COMBINATION OF MYSTERY/ESCAPISM, GOOD BOOK/LITERATURE/HUMOR/TRAVEL. AND INSPIRATION...THAT WORKS FOR TRANS-ATLANTIC FLIGHTS. CANADA MINTS OR LIFESAVERS TO RELIEVE DRY MOUTH, COMFORTABLE CLOTHES, AND A REMINDER TO BREATH....OMMM. OTHER SITUATIONS, OTHER SAFETY NETS. THESE ARE NOT CURES, IF THERE IS ONE. MEDS AND THERAPY ALSO HELP SOME AS WELL. HANG IN THERE. WE WHO HAVE THESE ATTACKS CAN STILL ACCOMPLISH SO MUCH.

Panic attacks seem to affect more people than we think. I have found out out that people in my own family have it and until I started talking about it ,I did not know that they suffered from panic attacks. To a person they all said the same thing, they were afraid to say anything because they were afraid they were going crazy. How sad that they had to suffer needlessly. I think speaking about it helps others tremendously.
