Great information. I've thought about what my family would do in all sorts of disaster situations. But I know this may sound silly, but, to me, the doctor comes off as if he is in the know of a health disaster that will happen very soon. Especially since I haven't heard about pandemic flu for awhile now.

What a bunch of NONSENSE. There is absolutely nothing to fear or worry about. As an ex-vaccine researcher this is all about Making money off of vaccines by spreading FEAR based messages through are media including here. What a disgrace. The whole flu pandemic is a Big Joke. Read the Bird Flu Hoax for the truth. Proper sanatation today here in the USA is the reason why you will never be affected. I am sick and tired of the LIES and FEAR over nothing. How do this authors get here. Give me a forum and I will show you the truth to health and healing. I have one of the largest natural health practices on the East Coast.

I really would like to see 'nyholisticdoctor' have a forum for his/her knowlege..........we need some diversity. There seems to be neverending onslaught of mainstream medicine fourms.

Needlman - you're fired! You've been replaced by nyholisticdoctor. nyholisticdoctor - Where is your practice etc.? Yahoo Health - Do your big pharma advertisers require to have this guy's blog??? How about an alternative or REAL health blog by a "free agent"? The people who do not question authority (i.e. post #1 can stick with Needleman (the vaccine superhero.....).

I know a lot of doctors who are similarly prepared for a pandemic just in case. Isn't it better to be safe than sorry? Everyone should keep food and basic supplies for emergency purposes anyway. We are talking about science here, not unreasonable hysteria.

This is good for those of upper level incomes. However most of us in the working world do not have the money nor the space to store such supplies. What do you recommend parents with children at home buy to prepare. It was nice of you to tell us what you did and I am happy that you did it, but this was not helpful to those not in your socio-economic class.

Thank you for the warning on another crisis! When our children grow up to live the legacy we left behind, will they have people like Dr. needlman or the nyholistic doctors in this world?

Thanks for the warning! along with the rest of the hazards in life but it is our children that will be living the legacy we leave behind.

Thank you for the warning. All those that laugh at the suggestion of being prepared for a disaster may be sorry some day. I for one believe in making reasonable preparations, and not just for a pandemic like the bird flu (people, this sort of thing has happened before, and it CAN happen again--dust off the old history books and see for yourself) but for a natural disaster as well. There are many individuals like Nyholisticdoctor who tell us not to believe any advice that comes from a traditional doctor, but believe me, many of these naysayers do have an agenda of their own. I wouldn't be surprised if Nyholisticdoctor is the author of the suggested book, and has their own website hawking their own "natural remedies" or "cures."

I think this was a terrible article. This doctor should not be adding to the flu hysteria. He should be using his knowledge and influence to educate the population on how to properly protect themselves against this "pandemic". Tell everyone that they can protect themselves by using proper hygiene, proper diet, and proper medicine ( not throwing antibiotics at every sniffle and cough). What ever happened to the bird flu anyway. It kind of disappeared after the vaccine for it didn't work and they couldn't sell it.

Maybe I read a diff. articule than everyone else. The Dr. doesnt push anything on anyone. I agree that like most people, I close my eyes and hope for the best. I think the suggestion to be a little prepared would be wise for all, in any situation! I dont have a lot of money either, but some water and can goods arent that exspensive if you buy a little at a time.

Pandemic flu... just one more reason I moved out into the country. Heck, the ice storm of '98 was all I needed to pay more attention to the various what-ifs! There will be enough warning to those paying attention to "stock up" before everyone goes insane and a general quarantine is issued, and my daughter and I will be staying at home before that happens! The constant mention of a pandemic is, to me, fear-mongering to push more people to get flu shots. The reality is, those shots are only effective for particularstrains of flu which they guess at being most prevalent in the season to come, and are sometimes very wrong about - as happened a few years ago. And if it's bird flu, they don't have a vaccine for any strain of it. For my folks, it was the fear of the bomb and the Cold War, for us now, it's SARS and bird flu.

The article is Are You Ready for Pandemic Flu? - Not get a flu shot, Run for hills, kiss your A@# goodbye. Nor is an endorsement to listen to any particular doctor or holistic person. Its meant to serve as a preparation guide for a particular disaster. Furthermore, people have died from this virus - not in our country but in other countries and since the US is in the business of letting any and everyone into our country, it is very possible that someone from another country carrying this virus could infect us. It should be a guide for preparing for any type of disaster. I think its better to be safe than sorry. I will take life as it comes but I'm going to be prepared anyway.
