I think that promoting the idea that breast cancer is related to emotional factors, without firm evidence of that fact, is dangerously encouraging a "blame the victim" mentality.

I truely believe that stress was a huge part in my breast cancer.I had marriage problems at the time, and then both my parents were very sick and died eighteen monthes apart, and I was in the middle of my treatments too! Stress is a killer!!!!!! I'm doing well now and just celebrated my five year cancer free! YEAH!

I agree that stress is one of the factors contributing to cancer. I had a particularly stressful time before my cancer was diagnosed (botched Lasik surgery and putting my mother in a nursing home). A friend of mine years ago wondered if cancer is "contagious" because she saw so many instances of caregivers (such as the spouse) developing cancer after the spouse died, but I told her that I thought it was the effect of stress on the immune system. Sometimes I think that the scientists want to dismiss things like that. Thanks for all of your insight into topics that no one else discusses.

There are many things that cause Breast Cancer or other Cancers. If we looked up the causes, it would take more pages, than we have a place to store. Mine was caused by having my( My Aunt Flow ) as we called it in the day at the age 9 years. Birth control for over 20 years, HRT from 1976 until 200. All things Can cause Cancer, Who is to tell what will or won't cause Cancer. Each time we hear about some new Causes, that is more information we have to work with.

I do agree that our environment plays a roll in cancer, but I believe that stress does also. I worked for the worst boss I ever had. After 4 years, during a routine mammogram they found it. I am the first in my family to have breast cancer. I do believe the stress had a lot to do with it.

Although I had a lot of risk factors, I truly believe the stress of Katrina and moving away "to be safe" contributed greatly to my breast cancer in January 2007. I felt so unhappy and trapped with our decision to leave New Orleans. I wanted to die. After discovering my husband felt the same way, we returned to New Orleans in July 2007. Still, I am sure that the depression and hopelessness I felt contributed to the cancer occurring at that time.

I believe that strees causes the immume system to wear down and when it is weak the thwe cancer virus that lies dorment in your body is trigger to act and thus cancer mutations occur. What differance is there to the cells if stress causes colon cancer why wouldn"t it cause cancer anywahere else? I have had 40 yrs. experiance in nursing , that is a lot of observation.

I feel that stress along with pollutants in our enviroment are the culprits. Synthetic birth control doesn't help either.
