Because of my experience with breast cancer most of my friends are even more dedicated to getting mammograms. A couple younger friends, when offered the choice of an early baseline mammogram or waiting, jumped all over getting the baseline. But one friend told me later that she was so freaked out about my cancer that she didn't get a mammogram for 2 years. I told her that did me no honor. I encourage all my friends to be vigilent.

I recently had my first baseline mammogram at only 37. I was thankful that my Dr. ordered this at such a young age, as I thought 40 was the normal baseline. After having my test done they called me back for more on my right breast, and I was to go to another center to have it done. They also ordered an ultrasound. I have to say even though my Dr. told me ahead of time not to worry if they called me back for more tests b/c it happens often, I was a bit scared! Lucky for me it ended up just being a normal lymph node. I definitely encourage ALL women, no matter what their age to GO have your mammograms done! I don't have to go back until 40 now, but I WILL be doing my monthly breast exams and encourage the rest of you to do the same! If you don't have insurance ask your Dr. or local hospital when they do the free mammogram screenings and get in line! God bless you all!

Mammogram Reminder I have written a poem I would like to share. MY MAMMOGRAM POEM I remember that they really went flat, I try and forget about that. I know it is for the best, So I go and get the test . It just takes a little time , To check those boob yours and mine, To make sure everything is fine. Self checking just once a month is all it takes. With peace of mind what a difference it makes Sharon (c) I send this to every women in my e-mail address book. If I had not gotten a Mammogram I would never found out that I had Breast Cancer. "We need to take care of each other" sharon

Mammograms are expensive if you do not have insurance. I hear of the free mamograms but there is never any information on how to get them.

I understand that a mammogram is expensive. But if you compare it to a night out on the town. that coffee at you know where. Or if you are a smoker. If you don't do any of these things. Contact the ACS. They can help you find a place that can help you. I am sure the local health department can help also. Valentines day is coming up. that would be a good gift. Just trying to help. Very good article. I wear my breast cancer earrings and that really starts a conversation with women . So that lets me get in the advice to please get their Mammograms. When I was diagnosed with IDC my daughter decided to get her mammogram. Three months after my surgery she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Luckily hers was not in the lymph nodes. We both stress tp everyone to please get a mammogram. Thanks for the article Jeri

I tell everyone to make sure they get one. I went for my first screening mammo at 40 and they found early stage breast cancer. Fast growing and everywhere. If I had waited, even a few months, it would have been very, very grim for me.
