Ask Your Doctor About the Latest Research Posted Mon, Jun 25, 2007, 4:43 pm PDT

If you have read something that's posted online at a credible and medically reviewed Web site or that's published in a credible medical journal, and you think the information may pertain to your own breast cancer situation, take it with you to your doctor for your next appointment.

Sometimes doctors simply don't have time to read every single research study result. Or they may not specialize exclusively in breast cancer and so may not have access to all the information that might help you. There is nothing wrong with printing the information off the Internet and taking it to your doctor to discuss.

Most doctors will appreciate your interest in your own health and, I would hope, will be open to discussing the research results to determine if this is something that will benefit you.

If your doctor isn't familiar with the study in question, ask him or her to talk with an oncologist on your behalf. You can even get yourself a second opinion.
