Other conditions with symptoms similar to hemorrhoids include:

• Colon tumors, benign and cancerous.
• Pruritus ani (itching of the anus, which may or may not be caused by hemorrhoids).
• Anal fissure or anal fistula.
• Anal abscesses (infected sores in the anal canal).
• Colon polyp.
• Inflammatory bowel disease, particularly Crohn's disease.
• Genital warts (condyloma acuminata), caused by the human papillomavirus.
• Rectal prolapse.
