Stage I prostate cancer is so small that it cannot be felt during a digital rectal exam. Stage II cancer is larger but remains confined to the prostate gland. Stage III cancer has grown through the outer rim of the prostate and into nearby tissue. Stage IV cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes and perhaps to other areas of the body.
