During a physical exam to evaluate a possible blood clot in a deep leg vein (deep vein thrombosis), the health professional will:

  • Listen to your heart and lungs.
  • Check the pulses in your legs and feet.
  • Look at your legs for swelling, bulging veins, and/or discoloration.
  • Feel your legs for tender, warm, or swollen areas.
