- Rapid return to fertility following removal

- Unpredictable and irregular menstrual bleeding
- Must be inserted and removed by a trained health professional
- May cause menstrual periods to stop or be very light
- Does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases or HIV
- May cause headaches
