Trisha's Story

"Good shirts are the foundation of any wardrobe."

There are three types of shirts that every woman should have as a part of her wardrobe. You can find these pieces at any price range, and make them work for different settings - work, casual or going out.

1. The Tailored Shirt

Everyone needs a good tailored shirt in her wardrobe - or two or three! These are the foundation for your work wardrobe, though you can wear them on the weekend as well. You can get long sleeves or three-quarter sleeves, which give a more casual feel. I like tailored shirts with a deep V neckline because they create a nice vertical line and make me look taller.

2. The Patterned Shirt

A patterned shirt is great for bringing some spice into a plain wardrobe, and keep in mind that patterns hide problem areas. The great thing about geometric-print shirts is that you can find them at all price points. Places like H&M and Forever 21 have patterned shirts that are designer-inspired, but for a fraction of the price.

3. The T-Shirt

Plain knit shirts are a great wardrobe staple. The great thing about these is that you can buy tons of them because they're so cheap. I'd recommend buying knit shirts in different colors and in different shapes. The rule of thumb here is that if you have a very angular face, a rounded neckline will help balance that shape out. On the other hand, if you have a really round face, a v-neck is great for achieving balance.

4. Sweaters

What I love about sweaters is that you can choose them in bold colors that are flattering for your skin tone. If you have a darker skin tone, you're generally going to look better in lighter colors. A light color will make the clothes pop against your skin. And conversely, if you're faired skinned, you're going to go with darker colors. Another great thing about sweaters is they can be paired with anything from jeans to trousers to pencil skirts, so they can work both for work and the weekend.
