To help diagnose food allergies, your health professional may ask you or your child the following questions:
- What are your allergy symptoms like? How old were you when you first had these symptoms?
- How long after you eat do symptoms occur? Does the reaction come on quickly after eating the food?
- How much of the suspect food was eaten? How was the food prepared?
- How often does the reaction occur, and what type of medical treatment do you take? If you took antihistamines, did they relieve symptoms?
- What is your diet like?
- What is your family's medical history? Do your parents or siblings have allergies?
- Do you have asthma or other kinds of allergies?
