Fifth disease is often confused with other conditions with similar symptoms, including:
- Viral infections that produce a rash, such as German measles (rubella) or scarlet fever.
- Allergic reactions that cause a rash, such as reactions to medications or other substances.
- Diseases that affect the joints, such as arthritis or systemic lupus erythematosus.
