General Discussion

Hypertensive retinopathy is characterized by high blood pressure (hypertension) that results in abnormalities affecting the nerve-rich membrane that lines the eyes (retina). The most common manifestation of hypertensive retinopathy is narrowing (occlusion) of the tiny arteries (arterioles) of the eye. In some cases, hypertensive retinopathy may result in loss of clarity of vision (visual acuity).
