Assertive community treatment (ACT), also known as assertive case management, is a community rehabilitation service that may be effective for people with schizophrenia. ACT involves a team of health professionals and others providing care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Care is provided where the person lives rather than in an institution or other health care facility.
ACT may reduce the severity of relapses of schizophrenia as a result of prompt treatment, which can improve the quality of your life.
Call the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill or talk with a health professional about whether ACT is available in your community. Some communities have services similar to ACT that are known by other names, such as Community Rehabilitation.
