What Increases Your Risk

The major risk factor for atopic dermatitis is having a family history of the condition. You are also at risk for developing atopic dermatitis if family members have asthma, allergic rhinitis, or other allergies.

An infant with one parent who has had atopic dermatitis has a 60% chance of developing this condition; if both parents have a history of atopic dermatitis, the child has an 80% chance of developing it.4
